Aux Anciens Canadiens is a welcoming restaurant in the center of Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec). Its 17th-century décor and traditional French-Canadian cuisine are the perfect conclusion to a day's visit to this exceptionally historic part of Quebec City (la ville de Québec).

History
As befitting its location in the heart of Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec), Aux Anciens Canadiens occupies one of the oldest houses in the whole city. The Maison Jacquet (Jacquet House) was built in 1676, although the restaurant is somewhat newer, dating to 1966. For the first 300-odd years of its existence, the Maison Jacquet was a private home. In the 19th century it was inhabited by Philippe-Aubert de Gaspé, from whose novel "Les Anciens Canadiens" the restaurant takes its name. Local legend states that the French general Louis-Joseph de Montcalm died in Maison Jacquet after his defeat at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham.

The Basics
Charming atmosphere, excellent hospitality, five dining rooms on two floors, traditional French-Canadian cuisine. The pheasant breast (a local treat) will not disappoint. Make sure to try one of their sherbets for dessert!
